The article entitled “Detection of Potato Fields Using Sentinel-2 and Landsat 8 Data-Based Machine Learning Models in Semi-arid Region of Central Anatolia, Türkiye” is accepted for publication in Potato Research.

The article entitled “Modelling of daily reference evapotranspiration using deep neural network in different climates” is accepted for publication in Journal of Applied Water Engineering and Research.

A major initiative has been launched to secure the future of agriculture in the Konya region. The grant agreement for the "Ereğli Climate-Resilient Smart Irrigation Center Project" was officially signed during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change.

Valued at 739,000 Euros, the project is supported by the European Union–Turkey Climate Change Grant Program under the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA III).

Strategic Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture

The signing ceremony brought together key institutional leaders, including Prof. Dr. Cem Zorlu, Rector of Necmettin Erbakan University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsmail Raci Bayer, Head of Programs at the Ministry’s General Directorate of EU and Foreign Relations; and Project Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevim Seda Yamaç from the Ereğli Faculty of Agriculture.

The project is spearheaded by Necmettin Erbakan University, with Karatay Municipality serving as a primary stakeholder in the implementation phase.

Digital Innovation in Water Management

Led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevim Seda Yamaç, the project focuses on introducing high-tech solutions to address the increasing water scarcity and climate challenges facing Ereğli and the broader Konya basin. The initiative will implement and test:

Smart Irrigation Applications: Precision systems designed to maximize water efficiency.

Innovative Digital Solutions: Data-driven technologies to modernize traditional farming methods.

Climate Adaptation: Strategies to enhance the resilience of local agricultural ecosystems against environmental shifts.

A Model for National Implementation

The project includes the establishment of a Smart Irrigation Center in Ereğli. In collaboration with Karatay Municipality, the center will generate "best practice" examples through real-world field applications.

These successful models are intended to serve as a blueprint for the rest of the country, with the ultimate goal of expanding climate-resilient agricultural practices on a national scale.

At the Next Generation Agriculture Movement Camp, which focused on the future of agriculture together with young people, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevim Seda Yamaç delivered a training session titled ‘Basic Awareness and Concepts in Agriculture’. The session provided high school students with an engaging and awareness-raising introduction to agriculture. Organized with the support of the General Directorate of Youth Services of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and in cooperation with UNICEF, the camp was held at the Antalya Aladdin Keykubad Camp Area.

The Agriculture 2030 Summit, where innovative ideas shaping the future of agriculture were discussed, brought together leading experts in the field. Hosted by HEKTAŞ TİCARET A. Ş., the summit served as a productive platform for comprehensive discussions on sustainability in agriculture.

The article entitled “Spatiotemporal Agricultural Drought Assessment and Mapping Its Vulnerability in a Semi-Arid Region Exhibiting Aridification Trends” is accepted for publication in Agriculture.

As part of Agriculture Week, the panel titled ‘Urban Agriculture and Sustainable Balcony Gardening’, hosted by the Social Innovation Agency, brought together experts to discuss the future of urban agriculture from a multidimensional perspective.

Dr. Sevim Seda Yamaç is accepted into COST Action CA22136 (PANGEOS). She has joined the working group on "3. Sustainable Land Management of Complex European Landscapes."

Dr. Sevim Seda Yamaç participated as an invited speaker at the 11th International Management Information Systems Conference (IMISC 2024), hosted by Konya Food and Agriculture University (Konya Gıda ve Tarım Üniversitesi). With a primary focus on Digital Agriculture, the conference provided a platform for her presentation titled The Application of Digital Technologies in Agriculture. The event offered valuable opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, fostering engagement with diverse sectors dedicated to advancing digital agriculture.

Dr. Sevim Seda Yamaç conducted a training session on agricultural meteorology and the use of digital farming stations for agricultural engineers working under the UNDP in Şanlıurfa. This training was part of the project Enhancing Resilience Through the Adoption of Climate-Smart Practices in Turkish Cotton Production, implemented in collaboration with the Ecological Agriculture Organization Association (Ekolojik Tarım Organizasyonu Derneği) and the Better Cotton Innovation Fund.

Dr. Sevim Seda Yamaç spoke on the topic of "Digital and Sustainable Agricultural Systems" on the podcast channel created in collaboration with Bubble Works Media, as part of Muhtaroğlu Holding’s "AGreen for Future" project, launched under the slogan A Green Step for the Future.
